William Mt.Vernon McCurley, Jr. (Bill), 61, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born on January 27, 1963, in Canon City, CO, to William and Joann (Telck) McCurley. In 1988, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Kelly (Reeves) McCurley.

Bill graduated with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Physical Education from Western State College and earned a master's degree from Lesley College. He taught second grade at Abrams Elementary and Castle Rock Elementary for 17 years. During that same period, he also coached high school football at Mitchell High School. Bill then taught physical education at Castle Rock Elementary School for 13 years, retiring after a 30-year teaching career. Throughout the last 13 years of his teaching career, he also coached at St. Mary’s High School and Douglas County High School. Bill had a passion for impacting and molding young lives, leaving a lasting impression on hundreds of children.

Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bourbon enthusiast. His greatest joy was his family, and he will be remembered as larger than life, someone who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife, Kelly; his daughters, Haley (McCurley) Lewis and Emily McCurley; three grandchildren, Sienna, Patrick, and Magnolia; his brothers, Patrick McCurley (wife Emily) and James McCurley (wife Kathy); his sisters, Kimberly Lucky (husband Dale) and Annette Biggs (husband Rodney); and more friends than can be counted.

His celebration of life will take place at Pinery North, 9633 Prominent Point, Colorado Springs, on June 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
