Tom Mahr, 76, of Monument, Colorado died Thursday, April 16, 2026 at his home. He was the husband of Jill (Jydstrup) of Las Vegas, NV. Born in Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony & Kathleen Mahr. Tom was a 1967 graduate of Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA and a 1971 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He served in the Air Force from 1971 until he retired in 1998. Tom was a career Air Force Public Affairs Officer. His first assignment was at Carswell AFB in TX. He then served in the Philippines. After the Philippines, Tom was reassigned to Headquarters, Strategic Air Command. He then attended the University of Denver where he received a Master's Degree. His next assignment was at the Air Command & Staff College at Maxwell AFB in AL, where he was a distinguished graduate. After Air Command & Staff College, he was assigned to the United States Air Force Academy as the Deputy Director of Public Affairs. He then headed to the Pentagon where he served as the Air Force Director of Community Relations & Media. Tom's next assignment took him to Los Angeles AFB in CA where he served as the Director of Public Affairs for the Space Systems Division. Tom then attended Air War College in Montgomery, AL. From Alabama, he served as the Director of Public Affairs for United States Forces in Japan as well as the 5th Air Force. After Japan, Tom served as the Director of Public Affairs for Air University at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. Tom then returned to Colorado Springs as the Director of Public Affairs for NORAD, United States Space Command & Air Force Space Command.
Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grave side services will be held at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Academy's Falcon Club. The family requests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in lieu of flowers.
