He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Suzanne Kelly (2010), son Kevin Kelly (1974), daughter Lois Peters (2024), and grandson Chad Peters (2002). Steve grew up immersed within the deaf culture and cherished life with his family. As a boy, he grew up in Darien working at the family business, Kelly's Feed Barn. As a teenager, he developed a passion for truck driving which remained with him his entire life. He served with the Wisconsin National Guard from 1950-1953. He married Suzanne (Suzie) Mog in 1963. In 1977, they moved to Colorado to start a True Value hardware business, the first in the new community development of Pueblo West.

Steve retired in 1990 and moved from Colorado to Green Valley, Arizona where Suzie continued to work at the Arizona School for the Deaf in Tucson. Steve dedicated his time volunteering at the Titan Missile Museum and at the local charitable thrift store, the White Elephant, which donates millions of dollars supporting underprivileged youth in the local Sahuarita community.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SLAD (Southern Lakes Association of the Deaf), 715 E. Wisconsin St, Delavan WI 53115
