Obituary

Steven “Steve” Lloyd Griffin was born November 10 th , 1957 in Colorado Springs, CO. If you had
asked him, he would have told you that he should have been born in 1857. He was more comfortable
stalking an elk or building a table than using an iPhone. Electronics mysteriously malfunctioned
whenever he was around. He probably would have enjoyed herding cows, chasing bandits, and
discovering new land like the characters in the westerns he loved by Louis L’amour, or his favorite movie
Tombstone.
Steve was a jack of all trades. He could hunt and fish, and then taxidermy what he caught. His
favorite thing to taxidermy was fish, particularly rainbow trout. He enjoyed painting the colors on the
fish to bring it back to life. He, with the help of friends and family, built their current home. He could fix
most things including cars, mowers, furniture, and hearts. The only things he avoided working on were
things that required electrical wires, because, as he said, “Electricity is magic”, and therefore to be
avoided if possible.
Steve worked hard his entire life, but he knew how to balance his time. He loved spending time
with his family including Judy, his wife, and his children, Kathryn and Dustin. When Kathryn married
Nick, and Dustin married Kristy, his family and his love for them grew. Now his family includes Kathryn
and Nick’s three girls: Olive, Violet, and Hazel Wren (who he named), and Dustin and Kristy’s three boys:
Maverick, Brooks, and Dean. He loved cooking at family events and holidays. His Thanksgiving turkeys
and birthday chicken and noodles made get togethers even more special. His secret ingredient was love.
Steve met Judy at a wedding in 1983, where he asked her to dance. They married August 4 th ,
1984. From then on, Steve loved Judy every day of the rest of the 39 years they were married. They
never stopped dancing, usually in the kitchen, to George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning”. They still held
hands in the car. When Steve passed away, peacefully in his sleep on September 13 th , 2023, Judy was by
his side.
Steve was preceded in death by his mom Jean Gallagher, his stepdad Dick Gallagher and his
brother, Doug Lacey. He will be dearly missed by all those who loved him: his children, 6 grandchildren,
sister Rhonda McGee, brother Dave Lacey, best friend Tom Wright, and many family and friends.
