Peter Wolcott Taylor Obituary

Peter Wolcott "Pete" Taylor, born on September 29, 1934, in Newton, Massachusetts, passed

away on March 16, 2025, in Monument, Colorado. A devoted public servant, Navy veteran, and

enthusiast of classic cars, crossword puzzles and coupons, Pete lived a life marked by

dedication to his country, community, and family.

Pete proudly served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957. After completing training in

San Diego, he was stationed in Japan during his service. He married his high school sweetheart

Sandra in 1954 who joined him in Japan.

Following his military service, Peter, Sandra and Wayne returned to Cape Cod Massachusetts.

There they built a house in East Orleans for their expanding family -a total of four children. Peter

served as a police officer in Orleans from 1962 until his retirement in 1982.

Peter’s first marriage ended in 1975. He married Carole (Lavers) in 1976. They moved to

Colorado Springs in 1982 with children Jim, Scott and Stephanie. They all enjoyed exploring

Pike’s Peak and the other attractions in the beautiful mountain area.

In 1997 as a widower, Pete began attending Wilson United Methodist Church in Colorado

Springs, Colorado. His connection to the church community brought him comfort and fellowship

throughout the later years of his life. This is where he met and married Beverly (Damery).

Pete had a lifelong passion for antique cars. He especially cherished his 1941 Ford, which he

owned for over twenty years and proudly showcased at several car shows. In quieter moments,

Pete enjoyed word puzzles, card games, and bingo.

Peter is survived by his family members Peter’s wife: Beverly (Damery) Taylor; Peter and

Sandra’s children: Wayne Taylor and wife Robin; Wendy Tulloch, husband Jon and their

children Lindsey and Alex; and Jennifer Austin; Peter’s stepchildren: Debbie Blackburn

(Beverly’s daughter), Steven, Scott, and Stephanie Ellis (Carole’s children) and their families.

He was preceded in death by several loved ones who shaped different chapters of his life: his

mother Lila B. Taylor (d. 1983), father Russell W. Taylor (d. 1994), brother John R. Taylor (d.

2005), second wife Carole (Lavers) Taylor (m.1976-d.1996), son James R. Taylor (d. 2009), and

first wife Sandra S.(Shaw) Lewis (m.1954–divorced 1975; d.2013).

Pete’s legacy lives on through those who knew him—as a man who served with honor, worked

with integrity, found joy in simple pleasures, and remained connected to faith and family

throughout the seasons of life.

May their memory bring comfort to those who knew them.
