Mary Cheryle Cowdrey passed away peacefully at Liberty Heights on September 30, 2024. Her
husband and best friend, Steve, was holding her hand as she took her last breath. She passed
after dealing with Alzheimer's Disease since being diagnosed in 2016.
Born in Liberal, Kansas on January 13, 1944 to parents Richard and Dorthy Gilster, she spent
most of her early years in small towns in Wyoming and Nebraska. She graduated from high
school in Riverton, Wyoming. Mary spent most of her adult life in Kansas City and Colorado
Springs.
Mary met her life-long love, best friend and husband of 56 years, Stephen Cowdrey, while
attending Pasadena Nazarene College, Now Point Loma Nazarene University. After college
they were engaged after three weeks of dating and married three months later.
Mary gave her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age while in elementary
school. She stayed true to his teachings through out her life.
She taught school for 30 years, with 28 of those years in Kindergarten. She always loved little
kids and lovingly touched the lives of hundreds of children throughout her career.
Mary and Steve were blessed with two wonderful boys Brad and Brian. One of Mary’s greatest
joys was investing in her boys, and being an amazing example of Christ.
Mary is survived by her husband Steve, her sons Brad and Brian, daughter in law Season and
her eight grandchildren: Karis, Kaylee, Kami, Weston, Ayla, Ashton, Micah and Abby.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, family, friends, colleagues, and students. She is
irreplaceable and was definitely one in a million!
Life Celebration will be on Tuesday October 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The location is Monument
