Linda Southard Obituary

Linda Sue Southard, our dear mother, also affectionately known as “Nana” to her
grandchildren, sadly passed away on March 10, 2024 at age 63 after a long and
courageous battle with lymphoma.
Linda was born to the late James and Frances Jones, May 29, 1960, in Waco, Texas.
Her family moved home to Texarkana, Texas when she was still in elementary school.
Linda graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School and remained in touch with several
childhood friends throughout her lifetime. After graduation she moved to Wyoming
where she met and married Chuck Southard. They were married for 18 years and have
two children: Kimberly Anne Maher, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and David Ryan
Southard of Lincoln, Nebraska. They went on many adventures together, near and far,
while living in Wyoming, Oklahoma, California, Louisiana, Thailand, Venezuela and
finally settling in Colorado.
Linda often described Colorado as “the place she always wanted to be.” In Colorado,
she took up many outdoor activities, but her favorites were biking, golfing, and kayaking
with friends and, of course, her faithful sidekick Dooney. Another of her favorite things to
do each year was to set up a campsite in the front yard and “camp out” with her
grandsons. They never made it through the night but when they all came back into the
house at the end of the day, with dirt-stained hands and faces, they were full of stories,
memories, and lots of laughs. Linda’s grandchildren were the light of her life! Her spirit
will live on in their love of board games, her deviled egg recipe, and, of course, Nana’s
Special Christmas cookies.
She was active in her faith and sharing her great love for Jesus! Linda loved sharing
Jesus with others. Her zest for life, her laughter, and her nurturing nature will be deeply
missed.
Losing a mother is an eclipse of the heart, leaving the world seemingly dimmer in her
absence. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was always
there when anyone was in need. Linda was immensely proud of her family, and leaves
behind nothing but beautiful memories with those who loved her. Linda Sue Southard
will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were
blessed to know her.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents James and Frances Jones and her brother
Michael. Linda’s memory is honored by her children, Kimberly and David; her
grandchildren, Thomas, Violet, Luke, Jesse, Henry, Abel, and Patrick; her sister Cyndi,
her brother Keith; and a community of friends who loved her.
To honor Linda’s memory, a celebration of life will be held on her birthday, May 29 at the
Lodge at High Forest Ranch. We invite anyone who knew her to attend.
