Karen Hurley Millis, 76, passed peacefully away on 15 June 2024 with her husband Philip (Flip) of 55 years by her side.
Karen was born in San Antonio, TX to John Gerard and Janice Ruth Hurley on March 2, 1948. She and Flip met at a summer job, and later married when Flip surprised them both by proposing to her at his graduating CSU ROTC Military Ball. After marriage, the newly-weds were twice assigned to Germany where they took full advantage of all the European experience had to offer. Karen completed her bachelor's degree in English Literature at CSU while Flip served in Korea, and later earned her Master’s in Library Science degree from the University of Indiana. With the latter degree, she found work at her dream job, Archivist in the Special Collections section of the Air Force Academy Library, while indulging her life-long love of reading and walks along the beaches at Destin, FL.
Karen is survived by her husband Philip John (Flip); son John Philip Millis, grandsons Noah L. and Israel A. Millis, and daughter-in-law Melissa E. Millis, of Fishers, IN; sister-in-law Kathy Hurley of Commerce City, CO; sister-in-law, Beverly Hurley of Broken Bow, NE; Brother-in-law, James Downey of Norton, MA. nephews Sean Ford, of Kingston, MA; Edward Hurley of Centennial, CO; and Ryan Hurley of Littleton, CO; and niece Ashley Krupp of Commerce City, CO.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, sister Janice Downey, and brothers, Kevin, Marc, David and Gregg.
