Joyce Myers Obituary

Joyce Marie Myers, 61, passed away on December 2, 2021 in Monument, CO. She was born on May 24, 1960 in DeKalb, IL, the daughter of Roger and Joan (Ness) Myers.

Joyce loved her family deeply and they loved her. She loved to spend time with her dad and Donna: playing dominos, sitting around the fire, just hanging out. She and her sister Ruth were two peas in a pod, often laughing so hard that they cried. Joyce was like a mother to her niece Tammy (Garcia) Castro and like a grandmother to Tammy and Robert’s three children, Mario, Mercedes, and Marco. She loved going to their school events and celebrating birthdays together. No matter what, Joyce made the effort to attend their school events and always – always – took the time to recognize birthdays, anniversaries, and special events. Joyce enjoyed time with her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her great-great niece.

Joyce loved her friends deeply and they loved her. And among these friends were the 29 dogs that Joyce and Lisa fostered along with two of them – Maggie and Duke – that they adopted and treated like precious children. Joyce volunteered at the humane societies in DeKalb, IL., and Colorado Springs, CO, confronting sorrow and sadness but always with boundless warmth, love, and joy.
She was kind, loving, generous, and adventurous; concerts, cooking, traveling, and football were some of her beloved hobbies. Joyce especially loved the Rochelle Hubs, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears. She traveled with her family to Thailand, China, Italy, Tahiti, and many other places. She trekked gorillas in Africa, zip-lined in Costa Rica, swam with wild dolphins in Hawaii, snorkeled with barracudas, rode an elephant on safari in Thailand, “cruised” on a small makeshift boat down the Yangtze River, drank cobra wine in China, swam with black-finned sharks in Tahiti. But no less exotic was the driving trip at age 15 with her 17-year-old sister Ruth: from DeKalb to the Baja Peninsula with just the car, their clothes, and the lawn chairs to sleep on.

After working at Ideal Industries for 33 years, Joyce retired early in 2017 from her position as the Accounts Receivable Manager. Not surprisingly, she then traveled to Africa, Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, Yellowstone in the winter, St. John, and took many other trips with family and friends. Quite surprisingly, Joyce and Lisa also completed a mini marathon in 2011 with an amazing time of 3 hours and 44 minutes!

Joyce Myers was preceded in death by her mother Joan, and her sister Mary Jo. She is survived by her father Roger, her sister Ruth, her niece Tammy, her best friend Lisa, and many other family members.
