Joanne Lee Mendes, born on September 6, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died
on December 12, 2023. In Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her husband, Walter
Robert Mendes preceded her in death on December 7, 2019. She is survived by
her daughter, Lynne Mendes-Stein (married to Michael J Stein), her son Michael
Mendes, and grandchildren Jacquelynne (Stein) Beach, Robert Stein, Marc
Mendes and Carolyn Mendes and a great-granddaughter Iris Beach. Her grandson
Michael A Stein died just 11 days after her.

As the wife of an oil engineer, she lived in Oklahoma, Venezuela, Tripoli and
England, before settling in the United States after the birth of her grandchildren.
During her time overseas, Joanne developed a taste for travel and fine art. She
volunteered in numerous art institutions coordinating international travel and
visits to art museums as part of art education programs.

Joanne was a doting grandmother who exposed her grandchildren to
international travel and art. She loved nothing more than to take her
grandchildren on trips to Europe, sailing trips to the Caribbean, local art
museums, the ballet or theater performances. She was a true patron of the arts.
Joanne is truly missed by her family.
