James "Jim" Joseph Hamme Sr. Obituary

James “Jim” Joseph Hamme Sr., age 71, died unexpectedly of natural causes on
November 20, 2025 in his Monument, CO home.

Jim was born and raised in Lancaster, NY and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at SUNY Brockport, and his Master of
Science in Nursing at SUNY Binghamton. One of his first assignments as a nurse was
serving the Navajo Nation in Gallup, NM. Jim was proud of his long, fulfilling career as a
Family Nurse Practitioner, and retired from The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

As a life-long learner, adventurer and jokester, Jim had many hobbies throughout
different phases of his life, including: farming and barn preservation, reading and
research, football and sports, exercise, gardening, cooking, and travel. Connection and
relationships were values that he shared: texting with his buddies about the Buffalo
Bills, calling his sister to sing “telephone tag”, teaching his grandson how to mow the
lawn to his standards, attending Bible study and church fellowship, making new friends
at the YMCA, and toasting to family. His vibrant and warm personality- and hugs &
fistbumps- will always be remembered.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester John Hamme and Regina (Attea)
Hamme; and sister Joanne Hamme. He is survived by his brother Michael Hamme
(Elaine Likos), sister Marie Hamme; children Sara Petrie (Tim), Jay Hamme (Elisa
Baker), Mary Grace Hamme (Anup Aryal); grandchildren Jack, Laney and Maura Petrie;
numerous cousins; and many beloved friends from New York, South Carolina and
Colorado.
