Emil Michael Squazzo, LtCol USAF (ret)

Emil Squazzo was born in Bronx, New York on 23 June 1940 and grew up in the Silver Beach neighborhood. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and Iona University. Emil joined the US Air Force in 1963. He served as a weapons controller during Vietnam. Later, he was a Weapons School instructor and squadron commander completing his career at NORAD, Cheyenne Mountain Complex. Emil’s second career continued in service to his country as a defense contractor for Teledyne Brown, OAO, and finally Lockheed Martin at Schriever Air Force Base.

 

Emil was a lifelong cowboy buying and training his first horse in 1968. This vocation continued throughout his life, training and riding horses. He was a licensed farrier and taught a horse-shoeing class for years. He was the president of the Cavalier Trail Riding Club for 25 years. Throughout his life, he trained innumerable, push-button horses that were the envy of anyone who was on a trail ride with him. He could fix or build anything mechanical or structural. Emil was a member of the SERTOMA Club. Emil is survived by his wife, Kristen (née Bauer) Squazzo and her children John Paul Ford (Michelle, their son Lucas) and Daniel Benson Ford. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Marie Garrity (Brendan) and his grandchildren USN LT Mark Liam Garrity (Evelyn Ting) and Keara Erin Garrity, his brother Paul Squazzo (Diane) and their children Paula, Paul, and Kenny. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence (née Porto) Squazzo, his wife Susan(née Howard) Squazzo and his son Mark Anthony Squazzo. A celebration of life will be held on 8 June at 2PM at the Secret Window, 47 Third St, Monument Colorado.
