Don A. Wick Obituary

Don A, Wick
March 16, 1935 - July 7, 2025

Don was born in Parsons, Kansas, and during his early life, he lived in Kansas and Texas.
While in Texas, Don met his wife Owanah. Don and Owanah moved to California where Don
went to work for Hewlett-Packard in H-Ps early years. Don was an electrical engineer and a
software engineer. H-P relocated Don and Owanah and their two young children, Suzan and
Don, Jr., to Loveland, Colorado, so that Don could help open the H-P instrument manufacturing
plant. Don worked in Loveland at H-P until 1982 when Don and Owanah were transferred to
Colorado Springs to the Colorado Springs Division of H-P. Don retired from H-P after working a
40 year career with them. During his years with H-P, Don traveled around the world and at one
point, was awarded a 100,000 mile traveler by TWA airlines.

Don was an avid collector of toy trains, old radios, clocks, and electric motors. Don loved
chasing old steam engines, in particular the 8444. One of his most significant passions was
musical instruments. Don collected and restored player pianos and pipe organs. For most of
his middle aged years, Don had a pipe organ in his home, which he fully restored himself. Over
the years, Don’s skills as a pipe organ restorer earned him the distinction of being a sought after
organ chest restorer. He worked on famous organs such as the pipe organ in the cathedral at
the Air Force Academy, and the organ in the paramount theater in Denver, among others.

Don is survived by his daughter Sue and husband Bruce Pluemer, and his son, Don and his wife
Chery Wick. Don is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Owanah, of 67 years. Owanah passed away on June 27, 2025.
