Dennis James “Mick” McKee
August 10, 1954 – July 9, 2026
Dennis James “Mick” McKee passed away on July 9, 2026, in Monument, Colorado after a 13-year battle with cancer. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio to Myrl and Grace McKee. He grew up in Rocky River, Ohio and graduated in 1972 from Rocky River High School. He was the youngest of three brothers.
Mick followed in his father’s footsteps and went to work for Wigand Corporation, a high-end architectural millwork company in Cleveland, Ohio. He started at the bottom sweeping floors and hand-sanding and worked over the years to learn all levels of working in the trade. When Wigand Corporation opened a second location in Colorado Springs in 1978, he moved with the company to Colorado. Mick left Wigand after a few years to work for several Denver millwork companies where he advanced to Journeyman Millworker before returning to Wigand in 1988. He was a long-standing member of the Carpenter’s and Millwright’s Union and served as the union steward for the company for several years.
Mick met his wife, Tamara, in 1988 through the SnoJets, a local ski club. They married at the Garden of the Gods in October 1989 and shared a love for being outdoors through skiing, hiking, camping, and exploring Colorado. They purchased their first home in Palmer Lake in 1991 and lived there for 10 years while starting their family. When Wigand closed in 2001, the family moved to southern Indiana for 2 years only to return to Monument where he lived for the rest of his life. He moved from working as a custom cabinetmaker to working as a Purchaser for several millwork companies. He finished his career at Edge Construction Specialties in Lakewood, Colorado, retiring in 2022.
Mick was a dedicated husband and father. He loved his children and was enormously proud of all their accomplishments. He enjoyed taking them camping, hiking, and skiing. Both children participated in scouting, and he always enjoyed helping out. He was a hard worker both professionally and at home. He took care of the maintenance and repairs for the house and on vehicles throughout his life. He could fix almost anything. Mick enjoyed a wide-range of music from all eras such as The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd to Sting, Willie Nelson and Billy Strings – and many, many other artists. He enjoyed playing his guitar, visiting National Parks, attending live music concerts, and spending time in the mountains. His favorite trip was an Alaskan cruise that he and Tamara took in 2024 to celebrate their 35th anniversary. He loved walking his dog and talking to the neighbors and making birthday cakes for his wife and children. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan.
Mick is survived by his wife, Tamara McKee, and their two children: Caitlin McKee (Kevin Schatz), and Connor McKee. He was the beloved brother to Dale (Barb) McKee and the late Donald (Judy) McKee. He is remembered fondly by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
No funeral service is planned at this time; however, a Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
