Cynthia Sholand (Cyn) was born on June 18th, 1952 to Steve and Helen Sholand of Lombard Illinois.  She attended Lincoln Elementary School, Lombard Junior High School and graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1970.  After high school she attended Eastern Illinois University and completed a four-year teaching curriculum in three years, graduating with her teaching certificate in 1973.

Following her college graduation, she began teaching high school in Aurora, Illinois, a stint which lasted for eleven years.  During that time, she met and married Gary Houha in 1978, but she became a widow in 1981 after she lost Gary to cancer.  Later, she met Kent Jarnig and married him on November 17th, 1984.  Following her eleven years of teaching she decided to change careers, and became the Director of a KinderCare child-care center.  She did very well there and eventually was made a District Manager.

Cyn and Kent had always wanted to move to Colorado, and they finally made that dream come true in 1990.  Following their move to the Denver area she became the COO of a small child-care chain.  Two years later she purchased her first child-care center in Aurora, Colorado, and eventually bought a second center in Arvada, Colorado.  Both centers were in low-income neighborhoods and were in poor shape when she took them over, but she managed to turn both into very successful centers, even having kindergarten classes in one of them.

Unfortunately, in early 2008 she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and began chemotherapy treatments.  By December, 2008 she was declared cancer-free, but the treatments had affected her enough that she had to give up her centers and effectively retire.  She was cancer-free until December 2022, when new cancers were found in her liver and abdomen.  She again fought bravely for two and a half years but it was not to be this time and she passed, in her Monument Colorado home, on August 6th, 2025.

One of the greatest joys of her life, besides her husband, was their son, Rustin, born in 1987.  They were later blessed even more when a granddaughter, Klöver, arrived in October 2013.

Cyn loved all animals, especially cats.  She was never without at least one feline friend, at one time even having five of them.

Cyn was also a lover of the Christmas season, and besides having lots of outdoor decorations she always had multiple indoor Christmas trees, one being nine feet tall with 2000 lights and 1400 ornaments.  It was definitely her favorite holiday!

Cyn is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kent, of Monument, CO, son Rustin, of Centennial, CO, granddaughter, Klöver, of Centennial, CO and brother, Ron Sholand (Linda) of Renton, WA.
