Bryan Albert Henning, 76, after a long and very brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis, died March 19, 2024, in his home with his wife Cheryl, by his side. Born on January 27, 1948 in Seattle, WA, Bryan was the only son of Harold Henning and Mildred (Leone) Brierley. At a young age, Bryan and his family moved to Grand Forks, ND where he graduated from Grand Forks Central High School.
He received his Bachelor of Education degree from Moorhead State College in 1971 and his Master of Education degree from North Dakota State University in 1975. Bryan and Cheryl were married August 14, 1971 in Barnesville, MN.
A lifelong student of history, particularly the Civil War, Bryan also was a consummate coin collector and chess player. After a brief tenure as a school counselor in southern Minnesota, Bryan brought his family to the Denver area in 1982 where he started up his jewelry business and over the course of 20 years opened several retail stores in and around Denver. Bryan and Cheryl most recently owned and operated Classic Fine Jewelry in Colorado Springs, eventually closing the store and retiring in 2011.
Most of Bryan’s life was interspersed with international and domestic travel, soaking up what he could about various cultures and their history.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Cheryl (Nelson), his sons Christopher and Michael, both of Colorado Springs; and his sister Jane Liedtke (Klaus) of Scottsdale, AZ. Bryan also leaves behind close cousins Bruce Brierley (Carol) of Mesa, AZ, Pamela Brierley Mortensen (David) of Marana, AZ and Diana Stewart (Lee) of Spokane, WA. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents.
