Obituary for Belva Cline Woodruff 8/13/1937 - 2/23/2025
Belva Cline was born in Kistler, West Virginia and raised in Columbus, Ohio. For 3 years in her early teens, her family traveled with a huge tent that seated hundreds who were hungry for the revival of Jesus Christ. Her father was the preacher/accordion player and the rest of the family joined as musicians of voice and many instruments. Belva began writing songs which brought much pleasure to the crowds.
Her Uncle had horses next to her neighborhood and she spent a lot of time there learning how to tend and ride horses. She was quite the equestrian and showed in many dressage competitions.
At age 15, she missed her older brother who had gone into the Air Force so much that she lied about her age and enlisted in Lockborn Air hoping to join him in Roswell, New Mexico. She got caught and was dismissed and wiped out of the records!!
She had many jobs but the one that set the stage for her future was being a journalist for a big city newspaper. She was spunky even then and refused to write a lie, so truths be told and exposures were a plenty! It made for job security as her boss really liked that. Eventually he promoted her to television reporting of stories and she was dressed to the 9s every evening! She was also well used by her boss to be a help in getting business for the paper just by being her smart and sociable self at fancy dinners with clients.
She got her Bachelors in Art with a focus in photography and a Masters in Journalism at Columbus University.
She moved to Monument in 1983 to marry Eddy Woodruff with whom she had be writing for 2 years, 8 months and 3 days. Pre online dating was found in the back of a Christian magazine in the Singles Searching section. Her big brother actually began writing to Eddy pretending to be Belva until Eddy finally wanted to meet her!!! She had to read all the letters from both sides and decide if she had been truthfully represented! She came on a 2 way ticket from Eddy so if she didn’t like him or his lifestyle, she could go right home. Well, they got married!!! She melded her art work with Eddy’s jewelry making business and they were off on a new life journey together.
In Littleton she got her PhD through the Monument Bible College and then followed it with an English Literature degree at UCCS.
These degrees prepared her for becoming an author….21 books in all!! Most are religious in her own way, based on her way of researching such that her grandest book is actually being used as a Bible College textbook!
Belva was always willing to teach anyone how to do art in drawing, painting, sculpting or carving. She was always willing to guide anyone in how to think for themselves and question everything. She was forever talking about God’s presence and what the Bible was actually about in all of its ways of teaching. She had a powerful gift for giving. Belva will truly be missed.
