Augustin Louis Shaink

 Augustin “Gus” Shaink was born on May 10, 1935, in Quebec, Canada. He was the second youngest of eight children and spent his childhood on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and practical skills that would serve him throughout his life.

In his early twenties, Gus moved from Canada to Holyoke, Massachusetts, where he built a successful career as a construction contractor specializing in residential homes. He took great pride in his work and in the homes he helped create for families in his community.

Gus met the love of his life, Joy, through ballroom dancing. Together they shared a passion for dancing and amateur competition, earning many trophies and creating countless happy memories along the way.

After retiring, Gus and Joy moved to Monument, Colorado, to be closer to Joy’s daughter, Katharine. Retirement suited Gus well, and during his 19 years there he remained active and engaged, always finding new projects to tackle and new interests to explore. In his later years, he especially enjoyed learning to bowl, embracing the sport with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he did.

Gus will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joy; his daughter, Carole, and son-in-law, Dana; his grandchildren, Jessica, Sara, Kate, and Evan; and his seven great-grandchildren, along with the many family members and friends whose lives he touched.
